Clinical Pilates Sandringham

Clinical Pilates

Our 60-minute Clinical Pilates classes use a variety of adjustable spring-assisted equipment and exercises for progressive challenges of loading, movement control and balance.

With no more than 4 clients per class, your teacher will personally guide you through a tailored program of meaningful exercises to support your fitness and assist with injury prevention and rehabilitation.

Dial up or down the intensity to suit your goals using our specialised equipment including the Pilates reformer, Pilates Cadillac trapeze table, Pilates Wunda chair, Pilates Ladder barrel, Pilates arcs and more.

Clinical Mat Movement Sandringham

Mat Classes - Dynamic Stability, Stretch & Release, Mobility, Yogalates

Mat classes at BT are purposely varied to provide you with a different focus based on the type of class you attend. All classes are suitable for all levels of movement experience.

Dynamic Stability- a fluid and energising practice connecting mind, body and breath while exploring strengthening and lengthening postures. This class is ideal for all levels as modifications and progressions are always offered throughout the practice. If you are feeling lethargic and flat, this class is the perfect lift up.

Stretch and Release - a softening, stress-relieving practice. Using Yoga tune-up balls, fascial manoeuvres (movements) and breathwork, stretches are held at a lower intensity for longer placing tension at the ligaments, tendons and joint structures, increasing strength and range of motion. If you spend a lot of time on the go, this is the perfect class to reconnect to yourself and to down regulate your bodily systems.

Mat Pilates - lengthen, strengthen and tone with nothing other than your mat and a few small props. This class isolates muscle groups before integrating them into larger functional movement patterns. Be guided by you teacher through a series of movements that will have your body feeling trained in all the right ways.

Mobility - breaking down movements at a particular joint in the body with targeted exercises, to then incorporate it back into a full body kinetic-chain movement. This is suitable for all levels of movement experience.

Yogalates - A hybrid class of mat-based pilates and yoga aiming to activate, mobilise, stretch and strengthen. Suitable for all levels of experience.

With no more than 10 students in any class, your teacher will offer modifications and progressions as required ensuring that these sessions remain tailored for your body.

These classes are also great for those self-motivated individuals who are after some inspiration for exercises they can do at home (with little-to-no equipment).

*Please ensure you let your teacher know if you are injured, pregnant or otherwise.

New to the Bodytech Sandringham Pilates studio & Osteo clinic?

Before participating in our Clinical Pilates classes, an initial 1:1 assessment with an experienced practitioner is required in order to gauge strengths, pain points and improvements that are specific to your body.

This forms the basis for your personalised program, so you can progress at your own pace. A home exercise prescription can also be provided to maximise the effects of your Clinical Pilates training.

Bookings & Cancellations

  • Absolutely not.

  • Unfortunately not. Regrettably the health funds don’t provide benefits to those individuals in group classes when the class is delivered by an Osteopath. The Osteopathy Australia association is continually lobbying to change this, so watch this space!

Your initial movement assessment (which is classified as an Initial Osteopathy consultation) is rebatable with private health.

  • No. As per the same reason for clinical pilates classes.

Referrals & Claims

  • Clinical Pilates is a form of movement therapy that uses specialised Pilates studio equipment including the Pilates reformer bed, Pilates Cadillac trapeze table, Pilates Wunda chair, Pilates Ladder barrel, Pilates arcs and other small props.

The Clinical Pilates classes are designed so that students are guided by their teacher through a program of movement-based exercises specific to their body. This means that everyone in the class is working independently as opposed to moving together (as per the Clinical Mat classes).

  • Your individual goals form the basis of the benefits. Benefits differ from person to person, based on what they are working towards. To name a few:

    • Rehabilitation from injury

    • Prehabilitation for injury prevention

    • Increased postural awareness and strength

    • Increased flexibility

    • Increased strength

    • Increased mobility

    • Greater efficiency in compound movement patterns (eg squats, hip hinges, pushing, pulling etc)

    • Replication of functional movement patterns (eg. if you play a sport or have a hobby, we can break down and replicate the actions within that sport and/or hobby)

  • The word ‘clinical’ implies that your teacher takes into consideration any injuries, ailments, strengths and weaknesses that are specific to your body. Your program is tailored for your body.

The exercises and/or movements between both clinical and traditional pilates are the same/similar, it is the way in which they are applied to the individual which is where the difference lies.

  • If you’re not flexible, great! Perhaps it can be a focus or goal of your Clinical Pilates practice.

If you are flexible, that’s cool too! Working on your strength will assist you in ensuring your flexibility comes with stability.

  • Please bear in mind that these classes are not fitness-based classes. Clinical movement classes are designed to educate and allow you the space to explore your body. We strongly recommend a minimum of 1x class per week to ensure you maintain consistency. This is in addition to any of your regular physical activity that you do outside of the clinic.

  • Clinical Pilates is a great, low-impact movement option both prenatally and postnatally. Of course, every pregnancy is different so your practitioner will be sure to go through anything and everything with you.

If you are unsure, getting medical clearance from your general practitioner/obstetrician is recommended.

Clinical Pilates

  • Yoga at Bodytech is delivered in small group classes delivered on the mat +/- small props. With no more than 10 people per class and an emphasis on education, the movement delivered in these classes is suitable for people with all levels of experience. Your teacher will ensure that any specific injuries and/or ailments you may be dealing with are considered with each and every movement taught.

  • Yoga classes work towards the same benefits as clinical pilates including:

    • Increased strength

    • Increased flexibility

    • Increased mobility

    • Increased body awareness

These classes are also great for those who enjoy doing stretches and exercises at home. Given that minimal equipment is used, you’re sure to find some that you can take away with you… and it won’t even cost you any extra!
